Fellows started up strongly in this competition, the only team unbeaten at the halfway stage. Mustangs had shown their vulnerability in their defeat by Moufflons and the loss of all their wickets in the 19th over to Fellows in their last game. Fellows felt that if they could reproduce that bowling performance and improve on their batting, then they had a good chance in this game.
Mustangs won the toss and put Fellows in to bat. Openers Tim and Sonu were gone by the sixth over both bowled by Happy’s medium pace incutters. Shoaib was now at the crease with Zeeshan, both powerful hitters, and for a while things were looking better for Fellows. Both batsmen were finding the boundary and the run rate was ticking along until both fell, caught off mistimed intended boundaries. Shoaib had scored 34.
Mike K looked to keep up the pace of runs, but neither he nor partner Niroshan was able to free themselves from the shackles imposed by Mustang’s accurate bowling and sharp fielding. It was only in the last over that Mike managed to break loose, taking 22 off the unfortunate Fahat, who up till then had given little away, taking his score to 44no.
Fellows finished on 140 for 6 wickets, one run more than Mustang’s all out score on their last game. The outstanding bowler for Mustang’s was captain Happy with 11 runs and 2 wickets from his 4 overs.
Mustang’s reply was all about Rupinder. In their last game Fellows had got him out cheaply. Attacking from the first ball he hit four boundaries in the first over and didn't stop until the game was won. Fellow’s tried all their bowling options but nothing phased him. Zahid finally caught him taking a swift catch off his own bowling. Rupinder was on 98. Two overs later, in the 13th over, it was all over with a powerful six from Fahat.
Now Mustangs and Gazepis must fight it out in the final next Sunday. A good game promises.
