13 eager teachers attended the Introduction to Cricket Coaching course which CCA provided recently at Silverline School in Trachoni, near Limassol.
The course, which is designed to equip teachers with a basic understanding of the game of cricket and how to teach it to youngsters, was delivered by Level 2 coaches Phil Bell, Andy Mulkern and Muhammad Husain, assisted by Tessa Kerr.
The participants, who came from schools in Nicosia and Pafos districts as well as Silverline, were kept active throughout the day as they learned how to pass on the basics of batting, bowling and fielding to their pupils.
At the conclusion of the day all were awarded certificates which are internationally recognized and qualify the teachers to provide cricket lessons to children at their schools.
As well as the knowledge shared, the day provided an excellent opportunity for schools to forge links with each other, which will hopefully lead to cricket games being played between them.
CCA is happy to deliver similar courses wherever there is a need for them.
From a teacher at Highgate School, Nicosia:
The course was brilliant fun. The delivery was informative, energetic, fun and friendly with lots of banter bowling back and forth. Everyone was so motivated and encouraging. I liked it when we split into the smaller groups and were treated to personal coaching. The sound of the ball hitting the cricket bat was so gratifying. I was so inspired that as soon as I got home I played 5,4,3,2,1 with my daughter and she loved it as much as I did. Can't wait to try it out at school!
From the head teacher at Silverline School, Trachoni:
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and your fantastic team of coaches for your time and efforts last Saturday. The feedback from our own staff and from the other schools was extremely positive and they all highly praised the level of professionalism that your team showed. The knowledge and expertise of the coaches was also highlighted and the participants really enjoyed the practical/fun nature of the course – staff felt it was thoroughly worthwhile and they have learnt an awful lot which I am sure our students will benefit from.
Please pass on my many thanks to everybody involved at The Cyprus Cricket Association.
