Cyprus Cricket played its part in the European Week of Sport by working with Lakatamia Municipality to offer a taste of cricket to local school children on Tuesday 20 September.
The event took place at the Lakatamia Stadium as a result of collaboration between the municipality and Rudolph Crasto, who is known to most as the dedicated manager of Mustangs Cricket Club.
Cyprus Cricket supplied 4 volunteer coaches, who spent a busy morning giving an introduction to the sport to children from a number of schools. Several coachloads of boys and girls tried their hand at batting and fielding, as well as taking part in games of kwik cricket.
Despite the heat, a lot of fun was had, and there was some interest in cricket coaching being provided in schools later. This is something which we are keen to develop, and it is planned to hold coach education courses so that we are fully prepared to offer cricket in the Nicosia area, similar to the coaching which we already provide in the Limassol, Larnaka and Paphos districts.
Video was taken of the sports - the cricket section is above; you can see the entire video here.
Our appreciation goes to Lakatamia, Rudolph and our busy volunteer coaches!
